Create a Geo Location for Mobile App Punching Follow
Geo locations, or punch locations, ensure employees can only clock in and out from approved physical locations. Creating punch locations helps improve time tracking accuracy and prevents punches from unauthorized areas. This article walks you through how to create and configure a new punch location using address-based geofencing.
Important
Geo locations must be created in the Punch Management section of the Client portal before they can be assigned to employees.
Punch Radius Options
When creating a punch location, you must select a punch radius. The punch radius determines how close an employee must be to the address in order to punch in or out.
Available punch radius options include:
- Within 1/2 mile
- Within 1 mile
- Within 5 miles
- Within 10 miles
- Within 30 miles
Choose a radius based on how tightly you want to restrict punching for that location.
To create a new geo location:
- Log in to your client portal as an administrator.
- Navigate to Settings > Punch Management in the left navigation panel.
- Click the Add icon in the Geo Location section.
- In the Nickname field, enter a recognizable name (for example, Main Office).
- Enter the street Address, pressing TAB to move to the next field.
- In Punch Radius, choose how close employees must be to the address to punch in or out (for example, Within 1 mile of this address).
- Review the location details. Confirm the nickname, address, and punch radius are correct before saving.
- Save the punch location.
After creating a punch location, assign it to employees.
Key Tips
- Use clear, consistent naming so supervisors can easily identify locations.
- Choose the smallest punch radius that still allows employees to clock in reliably.
- If employees report punch issues, verify the address and radius settings first.
